Halloween wasn’t always the kid-friendly holiday it is today. Until Trick-or-Treating became a thing in the 1920s-1930s, Halloween was really more of an excuse for adults to party… and of course, to decorate, mostly with paper products from the Dennison and Beistle catalogs.
You’ve probably noticed that Halloween decorations have seen a definite uptick in recent years. Beyond the jack-o-lantern on the front porch, the Halloween decorations we Baby Boomers remember were simple paper witches and pumpkins, fake spider webs, and posable jointed cardboard skeletons. Now, it’s not unusual to see entire neighborhoods decked out in black, with floating ghosts, faux graveyards, and sparkling Halloween lights.
How did we get from there to here?

Fun stuff– already getting in the mood! Now I want candy corn suddenly…
